The Selkie Sanctuary

Welcome to the Selkie Sanctuary

We are slowly and carefully returning to in-person events here at the Selkie Sanctuary. For now, we will be hosting small, private, outdoor gatherings by special invitation or prior registration only. We do look forward to once again holding larger weekend painting retreats, arts based group ritual working, and publicly open community ceremony, and will let you know when we return to full capacity.

Long time attendees and friends of the Sanctuary will see so much wonderful development in our temple studio and surrounding grounds, including an outdoor shower and wood-fired bath, 10 weaving looms, spinning wheels and drop spindles, pottery wheel, two kilns, a new kiln house, 5 painting easels, expanded dye, fibre, & medicine gardens with green house, ceremonial fire space, and the cairn keeps growing too of course!

As of January 1st 2024, we became more self sufficient by converting to a wild water collection system for all of our creative and household water needs! A 2,500 gallon cistern and three 250 gallon totes have been installed and are now fed entirely from rain falling on our tin roof. You can read a little more about it in Our Lady of the Blessed Rains: An Initiation into Collecting Wild Water as it first appeared in qathet Living Magazine.
Going forward we're working to build an outbuilding with composting toilet to support our guests, a covered area near the ceremonial fire space, a wood fired cob oven, and well ventilated 'tea house' for us to gather in now that the Sanctuary temple space has become a full time devotional arts studio with private residency in the cottage.

As of Spring 2024, we've reopened in a very limited capacity until guest facilities can be upgraded
* Please note * Guests are no longer received in the main house.
The temple studio remains open and other accommodations are available.

What's Brewing in the Dye Studio?

From Spring to Autumn, the outdoor dye studio is set up, complete with hyper-local foraged dyestuff, drying racks, additional tables, suint bins and rainwater washing stations, while the gardens grow a plethora of additional colour giving plants. You can follow along and watch for dye days & spin-ins Here

Weaving & Pottery Studio

From Autumn to Spring, activity shifts from the outdoor Dye Studio to the indoor Temple Studio, or 'temdio' where all the floor looms, spinning wheels, sewing & serger machines, pottery wheel, glaze corner, and handbuilding table are. While now a full time devotional arts studio, much remains from its time as a temple space. Ceremonial drums, medicine rattles, crystal balls, tarot decks, and saining herbs on altars are still all here, with skeins of handspun wool and drying plants tucked in amongst it all.
